Crowdfunding is a fairly new concept, but it is rapidly gaining traction as a method of fundraising with independent musicians and other creative types–and in my opinion, it’s an idea whose time has come.
What is crowdfunding? I’m glad you asked. 
Let’s start with a scenario. You’re an indie musician, or part of an indie band. You have a great set of songs, and you’re ready to record. There’s only one thing holding you back, and it’s the same thing that holds back many, many independent types just like you: money.
If you don’t already know that the music industry is in a time of upheaval, you either have your head in the sand or are not a musician (which is okay by the way–I mean, it’s okay not to be a musician, it’s not okay to have your head in the sand…oh, heck, nevermind).
